How do you describe your work?
My work is an attempt to translate old master paintings and their stories into a contemporary context. I create an artificial stage for forms, giving them the opportunity to become charged with meaning. Every new painting represents an inner image of my mind. Working on them is an attempt to create clarity in the chaotic brain that I call my own.
What materials / media do you use and why?
Everything that can be used as paint and anything that sticks onto it. Oil paint is the most used material though.
Where do you find most of your inspiration?
Art history, photographs of modern phenomenons like city life or representations of industrialism like factories. Abstract forms of everyday encounters. Poetry. History in general. The news.
Is there someone you look up to?
There are many, but to keep it short: painters like Adrian Ghenie or Francis Bacon. Poets like Charles Baudelaire, Ingeborg Bachmann, Rainer Maria Rilke, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, John Ashbery. Filmmakers like Jean Luc Godard or Federico Fellini. Novelists as Orhan Pamuk or Jose Saramago. Michel Foucault and Oskar Werner. My father.
What are your ambitions for the next five years?
To keep developing myself as a painter
